The List: The Beginning

As I mention in my New Year's Post I want to write about My List. Yes, it's bucket list. No, I don't like to refer to it that way.

When I was 17 year old I watched a movie call A Walk to Remember for the first time. I totally loved it and I still do to this day. However, I was really amazed that the main character had a bucket list that she had numbered. I decided that I was going to write out a list with numbers and everything myself. For the last 10 years I have written what I have wanted to do out with numbers and I have been slowly crossing it off.

Like I said Yes, this is a bucket list. No, I don't like to refer to it that way. The reason why is because a bucket list is for someone who is about to kick the bucket. I don't plan on dying anytime soon. The Good Lord may have other plans, but I don't. So, I like to refer to mine as "The List" because it's a list of all the things I want to do. I also would like to think that if I die before my time one day that someone would find it, or now this blog, and say "look at all the things she got to do while she was here" and not "look at all of the things that she didn't get a chance to do".

Now, I give a warning. Not all of these are serious, some are, but some of just fun random things I put down. However, I am very excited to share them. There are 198 items on this list and I can't wait to share the ones I have already done.

Item 7: Go to the beach

This one was actually completed in 2010. I was 18, pictured above (Sidebar: LOOK AT THOSE TAN LINES! Man I hope to get that tan again this year). My older brother Devin got married in St. George Island, Florida. I learned that I am not much of a beach person. My mom and I had much more just at the swimming pool that at the beach.

Item 10: Slow dance in real snow

Well the snow was about as read as it was going to get in Knoxville, Tennessee. However, the guy I was dating at the time crossed that one off for me. I was about 17 at the time.

Item 12: Get tons of old fashion photos made

This is one of my favorites of those "tons". This was for my 21st Birthday. I miss these times though. I haven't talk to Jake in a number of years.

Item 14: See a Shooting Star

Now, there is just no way to plan on this at all. It's by chance. However, I can tell you the first time I saw a shooting star was on December 4, 2015. Alaina's Trial by Movie: Bing Crosby

So, this is one of the very few times I would not allow Alaina to pick who was never. The reason is because I love Bing I don't have many movies with him in it... and my favorite Bing Crosby movies is a favorite around Christmas Time... That's right, White Christmas is the movie that she got to watch. The reason I made it her next one was because it was Christmas time. I know I am almost a month behind on posting this but I did make her watch it a few days after Christmas.

I know that many people get tired of Christmas Movies. They do a lot every year. However, this is one that you can't really resist.

Here is what Alaina had to say.

1. What were your thoughts going into this movie? I was looking forward to it. I really like Bring Crosby and I was excited to see another movie with him in it.

2. What was your favorite par of the movie? When Danny Kaye and Vera Ellen were like "we need to get fake engaged so the other two can fall in love already.

3. Who was your favorite character? Danny Kaye

4. Why? He was sparky and he had a twinkle in his eye. His character was also spunky.

5. What did you not like about the movie? I thought it was a little on the slow side.

6. What did you think of Bing Crosby? I enjoyed him. I really liked him when you made me watch Holiday Inn so it was nice to see him again. However, I think that Danny Kaye overshadowed him.

7. What do you think of the movie now that we have watched it? I enjoyed it and it was nice and easy watching.

8. Would you watch it again? Yes.

9. Would you recommend? Yes, it was a good Christmas movie.

10. What relevance does it have to today? Loyalty to friends. Showing honor to people who have been good to us in the past. Honoring them when they are down on their luck.

Happy New Year!!

Well hello to..... well anyone....

I see s few numbers of people reading on here but I am not sure who is actually taking time out of their day to read about a girl who loves movie. I guess to anyone who finds this even a little bit amusing, Thanks and Hello again.

I won't even lie I have a few posts I am behind on so I figured while I had the free time I would write all three of them. They should be too long. This one is really just to say what my plan is for this year and what not. So, lets just get right to that shall we?

About half way through last year I was thinking about all of the other challenges that I have done in the past. The fact that I did a Year of Courage last year makes me nerd out a bit. I love the Wizard of Oz and to do something that reminds me of my favorite character, the Cowardly Lion, I was excited to do it. However, it got me thinking about all of the means of all of the characters, people, and objects, in the film. How, I think in a previous post I said that my Best Picture Challenge was more like "Home" in The Wizard of Oz however, after thinking about it I think I misspoke. Really I think that "Home" is all of the movies that I own. As of now I own 330 on DVD and Digital that is not nearly the number I have seen in my whole life but It's a good basis. The reason that this is more home to be is because:

1. They are at the apartment that I live in.

And

2. These are the movie that not only started my love of classic films but have what helps to make it grow over the years.

So, about half way through last year I was at my best friend's house watching on of the movies on her list that I made for her, I started thinking about not only how I was wrong but how the other challenges that I have done are like other things in The Wizard of Oz. My Year of Review in 2016 was actually my "heart" or the Tinman. I love going to new movies all the time and that whole year was me doing something that I loved. The Best Picture Challenge was "Guidance", or Glinda the Good Witch, it was showing me the best movies ever made and how they have changed and evolved over the year. It showed me what great qualities to look for in new movies. That leads be back to "Home" or Dorothy. All of the movies I own is a crazy number to do in a year. So, I wont' be doing that like that. I think I am just going to watch them at my leisure and then write about them as I go.

However, I do have a challenge for this year. This year I will be talking "Smarts" and representing the Scarecrow. This year I was be doing Books turned into movies. It's going to be a Year of Learning. I have already picked out 12 books that were turned into movies and plan on reading/ watching one a month for the whole year. Some of them I have watched already, others I have not, but I will tell you that of all 12 books I have only attempted to read 1. I never even got half way through the book. I really do love to read but when it comes down to it I love watching better. So, I thought that this would be a good challenge to do, to maybe get myself into a more reading spirit.

The other thing that I am going to be writing about is The List. Most people have a bucket list. Trust me I have one too, but mine is actually written down. I made this list when I was 17 years old, I just turned 27 in December, so I have a lot of stuff on it, and a lot of stuff crossed out. I plan on writing a blog about the stuff that was crossed out already because I want to share and remember. Then I will write as stuff gets crossed off. I don't plan on that being weekly or monthly or anything like that but I will when it happens.

So, for those of you who have made it this far, thank you for staying around. Nothing really has happened much to me in the New Year yet, other than needing a new battery for my car. The first movie I saw in the new year was The Upside, which is amazing, sweet, and hilarious and you should go and see it. I wrote a letter to Tom Hanks to follow up with my Tom Hanks Hustle from last year. The letter hasn't been returned to me yet so I am thinking it got where it needed to go.

As for the rest of the year I think we shall have fun in seeing where it's going to go.
