Why Him?

Bryan Cranston as Ned Fleming
Zoey Deutch as Stephanie Fleming
Megan Mullally as Barb Fleming
Griffin Gluck as Scotty Fleming
Keegan-Michael Key as Gustav

When Ned finds out his daughter is dating a tech millionaire, Laird Mayhew, he and is family fly to California to spend Christmas with them. When they meet the strange and outrageously honest boyfriend, Ned is less than impressed. Laird gets overly excited and does everything he can to make a good impression, and more often than not goes a little too far. When Laird asks Ned to his daughter's hand in marriage Ned says no. Laird then tries everything to get Ned to like him and agree while Ned does everything to discredit Laird and drive him and his daughter apart.

I knew what to expect going into this film. These types of comedies are, for the most part, predictable and when you have James Franco in the mix you kind of know what to expect from him. While the bits are always the same and jokes are always similar, and the plot almost always goes down the same way, when you put James Franco in he always manages to make it funny. Even if you know what is eventually going to happen he always makes the journey fun. Bryan Cranston showing us a side that we don't see much was great. Franco and Cranston worked very well on the screen and built off each other's energy. I would say that you should go and see this film, it's crazy funny, and well worth it.

Passengers

Release Date: December 21, 2016

Starring: Chris Pratt as Jim Preston
Jennifer Lawrence as Aurora Lane

On a 120 year journey to a new colony, two passengers are accidentally awaken 90 years before they are supposed to arrive at their destination. When they learn that they can't go back to sleep and with no way to wake up the crew they must find a way to deal being alone. After the initial shock, they start to warm up to each other and create their own paradise on the ship to live out the rest of their years. When the ship stars to malfunction they must find a way to fix it and save the lives of the other 5000 people on board.

This is the most visually stunning film of the year. You can not out do what the production team of this film has done. Every thing you see and hear makes you think that you are with Pratt and Lawrence on the ship. It's majestic and electric at the same time. This film's story is very unique and original yet it tricks you. When you see the trailer you think that the whole film is going to be a thriller and you are going to be on the edge of your seat the entire time but it's not. The most action happens maybe in the last 45 minutes or so. The story is really between these two people who go on one journey and literally wake up in the middle of something new. This movie is literally what "it's not about the destination, it's about the journey" means. Lawrence and Pratt have such great chemistry on screen that you can't help but root for them in whatever they decide to do. Simply put, this is one of the best films of the year.

Manchester by the Sea

Release Date: November 15, 2016

Starring Casey Affleck as Lee Chandler
Michelle Williams as Randi Chandler
Lucas Hedges as Patrick

Directed by: Kenneth Lonergan

Written by: Kenneth Lonergan

When Lee's brother, Joe, dies after his heart fails he finds that he is now the guardian of his nephew, Patrick.

Really I think that the one line of the a description that I just wrote was more thrilling than the movie was. This film kept jumping back and forth in the timeline of Lee's life. It was hard to keep up with in some parts. Manly because I had to keep reminding myself what had just happened because I was so bored. When you keep looking at you clock to see if it's been an hour yet, and find that it's been only fifteen minutes, or you consider falling asleep because you know that the void of nothingness behind your eyelids is more interesting than what you paid money to see... you don't have a good film on your hands.

Assassin's Creed

Release Date: December 21, 2016

Starring: Michael Fassbender as Cal Lynch/Aguilar
Marion Cotillard as Sofia

Directed by: Justin Kurzel

Written by: Michael Lesslie, Adam Cooper and Bill Collage

In a search for a way to control free will Cal is thrown into this unknown world over the Assassin's Creed. Learning that his family tree has thousands of years worth of family members being apart of the creed, he is now to enter into their world to protect the Apple of Eden. However, he does not enter in the way you might think. Sofia is the creator of a machine called the Animus. This machine takes a person in our time and makes them relive the memories of the past with an ancestor. Sofia needs Cal's help because he ancestor is the last known person to have held the Apple of Eden in his hand.

This movie had so much more potential than what was given to us. I won't lie, I don't play video games and I have not seen much of this video game that the movie is based off of but I was really looking forward to this film. It was lack luster story line that should have been about Aguilar but ended up being more about Cal. The only time the film was thinking was when it was in ancient Spain but every time I got close to thinking this film was really cool (which was only when we were in ancient Spain) they would take you back to modern times just as things were getting interesting. What was really disappointing was the fact that Michael Fassbender was perfect for the role but the character they decided to focus on, Cal, did not have the hype factor that I would looking for and I really didn't can to hear about his back story at all. I really just wanted to being pushed into the ancient world and live there for most of the movie rather than only getting a taste of it.

La La Land

Release Date: December 16, 2016

Starring: Ryan Gosling as Sebastian
Emma Stone as Mia

Directed by: Damien Chazelle

Written by: Damien Chazelle

Sebastian is a struggling Jazz Musician with a one way tack of thinking, and Mia is a struggling actress that is trying every way to reach her goal. In their search they find each other and form a beautiful but unusual relationship. They are the exact same and the exact opposite at the same time. They give each other hope, love and a lot of fun. With some song and dance thrown in they find there is nothing that they can not do or become. Even if it's not the way you that you would get there.

Everyone around me keeps telling me that musical are dead. Yet, here was are in 2016 and one of the best acclaimed films of the year, by both critics and the average movie goer, is a musical. This film is one of the most fun movies I have seen in a long time. Any movie that keeps the songs in your head for a week after you see it has great things going for it. Every scene you are mesmerized by the magnificent beauty of the set, and every song has a great way of being poignant and expanding the plot while being wonderful to listen to. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are fantastic in this realm together. I have seen neither in a musical but they did a fantastic job paying tribute to the art in a new way. It's hard to do a staple piece such a musical, with a long history they have, and keep it fresh without giving it a new "hip hop" sound. However, the musicians and writers did a fantastic job keeping a "more traditional" sound and story rather than over doing. I would say that this film is not to be over looked it will be come a classic in it's own time and it will help to keep musical alive even though a lot say that are dead.

Jackie

Release Date: December 2, 2016

Starring: Natalie Portman as Jackie Kennedy
Peter Sarsgaard as Bobby Kennedy
Greta Gerwig as Nancy Tuckerman

Directed by: Pablo Larrain

Written by: Noah Oppenheim

The story of the aftermath, and the assassination, of John F. Kennedy in the perspective of his wife Jackie Kennedy.

I loved that they did this film. When you talk about the assassination most of the talk goes to if it was an inside job, how many gunman, and other conspiracy theories that have popped up since then, yet you never hear about what happened in the days after. What happened to Jackie and the kids? A lot of these historical facts are over shadowed by the unanswered questions of the events that happened. So, I am glad that they showed and acknowledged the events that happened directly after in the White House. While Natalie Portman was amazing as always, and the set and make up was great, the story was a little slow. I felt with what had happened after could have been summed up in less amount of time, however, considering that the film was a little over an hour and a half (it felt like three hours) I guess they were trying give the film length. I was really looking forward to more information about her. What her life was like before JFK, what it was like after his death, and all of the other interesting stuff about her. However, the film still ended up being about the assassination and only that. So, I was left a little bored and longing for more.

It's not until he gets an interesting group of contestants, and is in way over his head, does he realize his mistake. Now, he must only keep his theater from falling apart but keep the contestants from leaving.

This is one of the best animated films of the year. This Hilariously wonderful film will definitely keep a smile on your face from beginning to end. Every character is wonderful and unique in their own way. I loved it because not everyone character was singing the same type of music. You have everything from hip hop, to opera, and even a nod to Ol' Blue Eyes himself. It's a must see this year!

I am not gonna tell a lie. I am not the a huge Star Wars fan. I mean I have watched all of them once all the way through but I was not crazy about them. So, when I found that this film was coming out I knew that I had to watch it because it was going to be a huge movie and it was going to be apart of one of the biggest movie franchises in history. You have no idea how glad I am that I did see it because I love this film! I was not one to ever go back and watch Star Wars on my own again but after seeing this film I really do want to see how well it ties in with the rest. I loved that they did pay tributes to some of the actors from the original films, and how they added the new characters in for it to fit seamlessly into that world even thought it was made decades after the original three. Even the movie it's self doesn't seem like it was all shinny and new. One of the first scenes that came up was of some spacecrafts in background and they looked like the technology used in the first films. It's a great film that will make a whole new generation of Star Wars fans and new fans out of the older generation like me.

Office Christmas Party

Davis is a big shot potential client who business could save their branch. Going against Carol's final word of "no Christmas Parties" Clay throws the biggest and wildest Christmas party that the company has ever seen. However, the party creates way more funny problems than it fixes.

I think that this was a very funny movie. I love T.J. Miller and Jason Bateman! I think that paring them together was a brilliant idea cause they work off each other very well. As most comedies are predictable this one did have a few surprises in it. However, if you are not into "gross" comedies (i.e. sexual content and drug use) some of these scenes might turn you off to the whole movie. However, there are crazy antics, are weird scenarios that will make you belly hurt from laughing so hard.

Collateral Beauty

Release Date: December 16, 2016

Starring: Will Smith as Howard
Edward Norton as Whit
Kate Winslet as Claire
Michaell Pena as Simon
Helen Mirren as Brigitte/Death
Keira Knightley as Amy/Love
Jacob Latimore as Raffi/Time

Howard is a very successful advertiser in New York City. He if full of life and looks at it with great hope for the future. With this outlook on life he uses what everyone has in common to gear his advertising and these things are Love, Time, and Death. These things become ever more real to him after the lose of his six year old daughter. When he basically losses himself in the sorrow his friends are desperate to help him and hire a private eye to see what he does and if there is anything hey can do. They find that he is writing letters to Love, Death, and Time to ask the universe why this had to happen to him and his family. They wind up hiring actors to play these roles to help him come to terms with what has happened and why. However, his friends get more then they bargained for when they end up dealing with their own issues with Love, Death, and Time.

Critics are stupid... sometimes... most of the time. When the film came out everyone in every aspect hated this film and I am not sure why. Well, I am sure why because they said why in their reviews but I think they totally missed the point of the film.  Let me give you one example. One of these critics said that they thought that the film was about rich people getting their way. The only reason at all that money was as issue in the movie was the fact that the friends hired the actors at $20,000 dollars a piece. Ok, I get that I get that only the rich could go to that extreme to help a friend. However, that was not something I was worried about mainly because if I had that kind of money and I thought that anything was going to work to help a friend I would have gladly paid that price and I think many other of us would too.

Besides the point of the film is to not only help Howard with the loss of his child but it was for us as an audience to see what we are afraid of. Everyone is worried about Love, Death, and Time. I am 25 and I am worried about all of them. I always feel I don't have enough time to do all the things in life I want to do, and I want to have love in my life and that has not happened yet, and I am at this age where people in my family are dying. I getting to an age where all of this is around me and I can't make time stand still to fix it, or adjust stuff, I have to keep going forward and pray I don't waste time that I have worrying. These are three very big, and universal things that everyone does have to deal with in their lives. It may not be in the same way, or at the same time, but we all deal with them.

I think that the critics got to caught up in how "unrealistic" it was. That the actors could have never pulled off what they did to help Howard. I think the point that they missed was a simple point. The point was that everyone grieves for a loss differently. Some work through the grief, others cry and compose their selves. Personally I have gone through a lot of grief this year and I cried a lot and then went to a movie to calm myself down and process. The point of the movie was to understand that heartache is a very real thing and it doesn't go away overnight. The pain that we feel will lessen with time but we can't speed it up. Also, that even though we are grieving in different ways does not mean that we have lost touch with the world and people around us. We might not be able to convey that we still see, know, and might be more in tuned with what is going on in others lives than you may think. The movie was not only about how people deal with grief but how they are now changed by it.

It's a beautifully told story about this one man's journey and how his life has changed. However, it is every bit as poignant to everyone who watches it as it is to the characters in it. It's not your typical story of these "angels" or "beings" that come along to help a man through in some fairytale. The story is of real people helping a real man to process and start to heal from a major loss. It's not a typical story but it is one movie that has the most realistic and truest feelings of any I have ever seen.

This is one of Will Smith's best performances that I have seen him in. He really brings the best he has to the table in this film. No one would have been better for this film. He makes me forget that he is Will Smith and that he did other films. Any actor that can make you forget who they are and become a different person is a great actor in my book.

Almost Christmas

Release Date: November 11, 2016

Starring: Kimberly Elise as Cheryl
Danny Glover as Walter
Omar Epps as Malachi
Mo'Nique as Aunt May
J.B. Smooth as Uncle Lonnie
Gabrielle Union as Rachel

Directed by: David E. Talbert

Written by: David E. Talbert

When the family comes home for Christmas, after their mother passes, sparks fly. While they are going through this family crisis of the first holiday without their mother they are also all going through personal transitions as well.

This film was thee okayist movie of this year. It was cute but nothing over the moon about it. It seemed pretty predictable, and not in the fun way. You kind of knew who was going to do what, and how the story was going to end once you knew what all of the problems were. It's one of those movies that is good to watch if there is nothing else on but not one to make time to see in any capacity.

Moana

Release Date: November 23, 2016

Starring: Auli'i Cravalho as Moana
Dwayne Johnson as Maui

Directed by: Ron Clements and John Musker

Written by: Jared Bush

Moana is the daughter of a chief on a tropical island. She has always longed to travel the sea but her father refuses. When a curse starts to take over her home land, Moana is trusted by the sea to return the heat of the goddess to its rightful place. With the help of a Demi-god named Maui, we travel with Moana to save her family and discover her true purpose.

This film is a real journey to go on. This has all of the bells and whistles of a classic Disney Princess film. Moana is such a relatable character in the fact that all of us long for more (as most Disney princess do) but she always knows how to express herself in song. The music is amazing in this film. They have songs that get stuck in your head for a few days, and then have great one liners that make you laugh no matter what. Dwayne Johnson was something I was concerned with for the film when I found out he was going to be in it. The reason for the concern was the singing. I haven't seen him carry a tune in a film before but he did do an amazing job with his song "You're Welcome". He had better pipes than I thought. The real Singing star of the show was of course Auli'i Cravalho! She has an amazing voice that I would love to hear more from and did a great job in bringing Moana to life. Everything detail that was put into this film was beautiful. It will be one for me to watcha again to truly appreciate everything that I know that I missed the first time.

Allied

Assigned to assassinate one of the top ranking officers, he is paired up with Marianne Beausejour to be his undercover wife. During the weeks they work together, in close proximity, they fall in love and come up with a plan to get the job done and get married. A few short years later they are living in London, happily married, and they are being put to the test. As suspicions arouse about Marianne being a spy, Max does everything not only to prove the accusation false but to do it without Marianne he is digging into her identity.

I would have to say looking back on this film is was better than the first impression that I had seeing it. However, that does not cover up the fact that I thought the movie was terribly slow. When you tell me that I am about to watch a thriller I feel like the slow part starts at the beginning and you are slowing being pulled to the edge of your seat by the end of the film. Not in this case. The film had parts that did leave you guessing but they also equally had slow parts that almost have you begging to get back to being thrilling again. The film does leave you guessing until the end but it was almost by the end that you really didn't care either way.

Rules Don't Apply

Release Date: November 23, 2016

Starring: Alden Ehrenreich as Frank Forbes
Matthew Broderick as Levar Mathis
Lily Collins as Marla Mabrey
Warren Beatty as Howard Hughes

Directed by: Warren Beatty

Written by: Warren Beatty based off the story by Warren Beatty and Bo Goldman

In 1950's Hollywood the world is run by the movie makers. Everyone that is in a movie is under contract with a studio and the people who run them. Howard Hughes is one such person and he is also one of the most sought after directors that actresses want to work for. One young, lucky actress does land a contract with Mr. Hughes and that is Marla Mabrey. If you are not under contract as an actor with Mr. Hughes you still want to work for one of the richest an most influential people in Hollywood and Frank Forbes in one such fortunate man, with big ideas, is currently doing, as his driver. With both of them getting a taste of the high life and glamour of the golden age of Hollywood they meet and star a lovely friendship that leads both of them in unexpected realties. While, walking a forbidden fine line between friendship and relationship Frank and Marla try to find success in their own dreams without the ever watchful Howard Hughes controlling every aspect of their lives.

The Hollywood that we know today and not the Hollywood that has always been. Watching a falling in love with old movies leads you to eventually learn the history of Hollywood. This is probably the most accurate telling of a story about that aspect of Hollywood I have seen in a movie. The fact that the actors and actresses were contracted to studios and couldn't really pick where and what movie they could really play in was different then what we see now. So, showing that side of Hollywood really helped the story as a whole. The movie all around was brilliant! It was dazzling, and wondrous. Everyone in this film was perfect for their roles, and really blended well with each other. It made me envious the fun they seemed to be having on the screen. It was a very original film and concept. Warren Beatty did a fantastic job at writing, directing and starring in this film. He is the very definition of what it means to be a triple threat. This film is one of the top recommendation list of this year.

Edge of Seventeen

Release Date: November 18, 2016

Starring: Hailee Steinfeld as Nadine
Woody Harrelson as Mr. Bruner

Written by: Kelly Fremon Craig

Nadine is a Seventeen year old high school student who is an odd ball out. Things with her life and her family since her dad died a few years earlier. Thinking that he dad was the only on who really understood her she feels that she will always be the odd ball out. With her relationship with her mom and her brother strained and her only friend dating her brother she now feels totally alone. While in her moments of isolation she makes a few mistakes that she relies on the only relationship she feels she has left and that is one with her favorite teacher Mr. Bruner. With his sarcastic attitude that revels Nadine's she finds a friend in him that helps to get through the weird few months ahead.

This is one of the classic coming of age stories that you see all of the time in the movies. It was not the greatest of them all and it's was not the best storytelling. However, it was funny and embarrassing at the same time. I think that the film was set up like a moody teenager. It did not make sense in some places and in others it was too bland. Through most of it I was just wanting to slap Nadine because it was overly moody through the whole thing. In others I could have totally fell asleep and felt like I didn't miss that much. I think that it's a movie that if you are in the mood to watch give it a chance but I would not go out of your way to see it.

Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk

Release Date: November 11, 2016

Starring: Joe Alwyn as Billy
Kristen Stewart as Kathryn
Steve Martin as Norm

Directed by: Ang Lee

Written by: Jean-Christophe Castelli based off the novel by Ben Fountain

The story about Billy Lynn and his team on leave from Iraq over Thanksgiving. They are given a hero's welcome during a Dallas football game. While they are being honored we see what events happen to lead them to where they are now.

I thought that the film was long and boring. It's more of an "artsy" type film but I wasn't that impressed by it. No one in the film was that impressive. It was like they tried to get a few big stars in on the movie to have people come and see it. Yet, Vin Diesel wasn't the star, Steve Martin was not in a comedy so most don't really want to see him a serious role, and Kristen Stewart doesn't show any emotion and I am not sure how she is an actress to begin with. So, with the rest of the cast not really being known and the most boing plot of a film this year it will be a soon forgotten film.

Bleed for This

Release Date: November 23, 2016

Starring: Miles Teller as Vinny
Aaron Eckhart as Kevin Rooney

Directed by: Ben Younger

Written by: Ben Younger based off the story by Ben Younger Pippa Bianco and Angelo Pizzo

The story of World Champion fighter Vinny Pazienza and his experience of becoming world champion after a car accident nearly paralyzed him.

When I first saw the previews for this movie I was really interested in seeing it. I thought that if it was going to be anything like Hands of Stone was I would have really enjoyed it. I knew that it was based off a true story and the story of how Mr. Pazinza became world champion again after all he had been through. However, the movie did not do that story justice. I felt like it was focused just on the boxing and not on the relationships and how his life really changed. It was very long and it dragged. It seemed that they added scenes to make the movie unnecessarily longer. I will say for what Miles Teller was given to do in the movie he did a good job. I have yet to see him in a movie that he did poorly in. However, his performance did not change the overall slowness of the film.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Release Date: November 18, 2016

Starring: Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander
Colin Farrell as Graves
Katherine Waterston as Porperntina "Tina" Goldstein
Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski
Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein

Directed by: David Yates

Written by: J.K. Rowling

Newt Scamander is a young wizard who has spent most of his life studying Magical Beasts. When his studies bring him to New York he gets himself into trouble. When his beast escape and a no-maj sees, Newt must save his beasts, his new friends, and the Big Apple from danger.

Just like most people on the planet, I loved the Harry Potter books and movies. I was kind of worried when I heard about this film because it's risky business to expand on a story once it's already concluded. However, this just such a great job that you forgot about the Harry Potter story. Eddie Redmayne is so good in this role that I could not think of anyone else better for the job. What I think that I loved most about the story was the fact that we get to see a movie about someone who has already found their purpose. With the Harry Potter books/movies you are watching them not only fulfill a destiny but find what their purpose is for their life after the danger. With Newt he didn't have to fulfill a destiny and he found that his purpose was the study and protection of  magical beasts. So, I loved seeing a character in a role where an adventure finds him and he saves the day because it deals with what he loves to do for a living. Rather than trying to become into the person he needs to be to be or a hero.

I would have to say that I loved this film. It's not the greatest animated film ever but it's one of the best this year. I loved this film cause it as fun to watch but I loved it more because it's one of those films that stays with you weeks after you have seen it!

Hacksaw Ridge

Doss made an oath to God that he would never pick up a weapon and kill anybody. So, when he volunteers for the war he knows that he faces ridicule, hardship, and possibly jail time as he shows everyone that he is not going into battle with any weapons.

This is THE BEST picture of the year. I can not say enough good thing about this film. There are not a whole lot of films that have every been created that I could say I would not change something about. This is one of the handful of films that I can say that this is a  near perfect film. There is nothing I would change even if I had the chance too. Every cast member, every note in the music, every visual and sound effect was epically crafted into the film that we see today.

Boo! A Madea Halloween

Release Date: October 21, 2016

Starring: Tyler Perry as Madea/Joe/Brian
Cassie Davis as Aunt Barn
Bella Thorne as Rain
Diamond White as Tiffany

When Tiffany won't stop being defiant by going over to the fraternity house, Brian is worried that her daughter is going to get in trouble. So, when he hears that the frat house is going to have a Halloween party while he is out of town he calls his Aunt Madea to watch her. When Madea shuts down the party the fraternity seeks revenge on Madea and tries to scare her back to her own home.

This has to be one of the Madea Movies to come out. However, it's a little bit more on the risky side. It seem to be a little bit more for entertainment instead of a life lesson movie. However, you don't really care because when you get Madea around clowns the whole thing turns chaotic and funny. It's a really good Halloween film for someone who does not enjoy scary movies.. like myself.

Denial

Release Date: September 30, 2016

Starring: Rachel Weisz as Deborah Lipstadt
Tom Wilkinson as Richard Rampton

Directed by: Mick Jackson

Written by: David Hare based off the book "History on Trial: My Day in Court with a Holocaust Denier" by Deborah Lipstadt

In 1995 the world witnessed on of the most interesting trials of all time. It dealt with murder, hatred, and unspeakably horrible situation ever to happen in human history. However, it was not the people that demonstrated these acts that is one trail. The trial was between Deborah Lipstadt, a professor and author of the Holocaust, and David Irving, an author and Holocaust denier. The charges are against Lipstadt for Libel because she "publicly discredited him and hurt his reputation" but to prove her right to win the case she must prove that the Holocaust did happen.

One of the most in depth and fascinating movies of the whole year. Again, it's one of those movies that has come out this year that is based off a true story and I am wondering why we didn't learn about it in school. Typically when there is a trial, the trial becomes history, in this film History is literally on trial. I think that the thought process behind winning the case was insightful, and the facts that are presented about the Holocaust, are truly heartbreaking. It's a movie that give your hope for humanity.

However, as Nat is going around to these other places he see how other's a being treated poorly. That's when he starts to preach differently and starts an uprising against the slave owners.

This is another great example of a story that we never learned in history class. There are so many of these stories in history, that help us with the facts, that we aren't learning about. Nate Parker was fantastic in this film. He really put everything he has into this role and I was very impressed.

I loved that the story, how they showed her hard work and the insecurities that come with reaching your dreams. Lupita Nyong'o's performance was brilliant and so was David Oyelowo. I think this a great film that everyone needs to see at least once.

A boy tries to fit in at a new school while his family deals with the loss of hos brother and his mother's jerky boyfriend.

This was a very cute kids movie. I thought that there was a great message for being creativity and learning. It tackled that fact that not all kids learn the same way and not all kids do well on standardized tests. Just because a kids doesn't learn the same as most doesn't mean they aren't small it's just mean they interact differently with the world.

The story of the biggest oil spill in U.S. history. It's a look at what people did in order to save money by cutting corners. How those choices effected the lives of the people who worked on the rig and the family back home waiting for answers. The story of how everyone survived the catastrophe.

This is a story the effects everyone alive at the time of this spill. I remember being in the gulf waiting for my older brother to get married and hoping that they oil would wait just a little bit so they could have their ceremony. So, I remember the event after more so than the explosion happened. This movie though was great. It gave you a better idea of what happened on the rig, and it told about the aftermath of everything too with the trial. Over all a great movie.

Snowden

Directed by: Oliver Stone

Written by: Kieran Fitzgerald and Oliver Stone based off the books by Anatoly Kucherena and Luke Harding

The story of the life and career of Edward Snowden and his choice to speak the truth about the government watching people and his run from treason.

The film was better than I expected and I got to learn why Snowden was such a big deal. When this all happened I was not interested in what was going on. I was thinking that I was ok cause I didn't put anything on internet that was going to get me in trouble. Then when I saw that it was so much more than that, I understood the issue better. It was a very good movie and Joseph Gordon-Levitt was brilliant as always!

She is shunned, but secretly loved, by the town She tries to break the curse she thinks she is under. With the help of the other town outcasts she learns the truth about herself and her town.

This was the surprise movie of the year for me. When I first heard about the film I was unimpressed but I decided to go because I knew that it might be a decent film. However, I think it's one of the best all around films this year. Everything about the film was beautiful, and joyous to watch. I loved every aspect of this film. The clothes were a character of their own. You laugh, you cry, and you wish you could be friends with Tilly. I would really recommend this film for anyone to see.

When her co-worker takes her to a music festival for the weekend, she hooks up with a random guy named Jack. Then a few days later she hook up with Mark Darcy and now she is pregnant and has two men fighting over her and the baby.

It was funny, sweet and cute but not nearly as good as the first two. I do like that they finally tied up all the ends of her story but they could have done without the third movie.

Instead of sending him money he sends down a hitman to kill him so no one finds out who really has all of the cash. When David finds out what really is going on all hell breaks loose and he is now desperate to get home to clear his name.

I thought that the film was entertaining but not a real laugh out load comedy. It was a good film to watch and it would cheer you up when your day is not going great but I was not in stiches through the whole film. However, Jason Sudeikis is what made the film for me. I was rolling in the aisles whenever he was one the screen.

I was surprised by how much I liked this film. I am not the biggest Time Burton fan but the was wonderful. I was very impressed by Eva Green's performance. Emma Cullen lost her husband in the slaughter and hires Chisolm to save their town. Chisolm gathers seven of the best men he can find and plans to take down Bogue.

This is my new favorite movie of the year. I personally think it's the best casted film of the year. Everyone played their parts so well, and they did it with grace, comedy, and seriousness that no other film this year has been able to pull off quite as well. One of the best performance of Denzel Washington that I have seen, and this was by far the best performance that Chris Pratt has given  in his career.

The Hollars

With so much change going on he doesn't now what he truly feels. This is the story of this brief moment in his life where he shift through what is to come.

I loved this film. It's not over dramatic, it's not over crazy, and it's straight to the point. Well, what I mean by that is we are going through all of these emotions with John as he is experiencing them. There is not a whole lot of information that the audience knows before he knows it himself. So with that we are with him the whole story.

When she gets a new letter and accidentally creates a baby, Junior and Tulip must secretly deliver the baby so Junior doesn't lose his job.

This is one of the most enjoyable animated films this year. It also had one of the best messages of what family means that almost any movie has given this year. The best part about this film is that it's message is put into the kids perspective. I love that because it show parents, and adults in general, that kids get it. They really get that they are not going to be little for a little while. Kids do know that they are growing up and that they are not going to be young forever. It's a great story for everyone to enjoy for many different reasons.

The Wild Life

Release Date: September 9, 2016

Starring: Matthias Schweighofer as Robinson Crusoe
Jay Jones as Friday
Laila Berzins as Rosie
Jeff Douchette as Pango

Directed by: Vincent Kesteloot and Ben Stassen

Written by: Domonic Paris

Robinson Crusoe is trying to become a map make at sea. When the ship he is on sinks he is lost on an uncharted island where he now has to survive with the wild animals of the island.

Not the worst film of the year but it was my least favorite animated film. It's one of those movies where all of the good parts are shown in the trailer. When as adult goes to see and animated film they want to enjoy it and made to feel like a kid again. This did not happen at all. It's one of those films where kids would enjoy it but it's a forgettable movie.

Hands of Stone

Release Date: August 26, 2016

Starring: Edgar Ramirez as Roberto Duran
Robert De Niro as Ray Arcel
Usher Raymond as Sugar Ray Leonard
Ana de Armas as Felicidad Iglesias

Directed by: Jonathan Jakubowicz

Written by: Jonathan Jakubowicz

Roberto Duran was a poor boy living in Panama. Growing up he hardly had any food to eat or means to live. During his young age Panama and the United States started to have conflicts. These issues, and the fact that his father who left was a U.S. Citizen, he never fully trusted Americans. So, when Ray Arcel comes around and wants to train him he is not interested. However, after learning a bit about his training history, and the fact that he wants to be world champion, he decides to train with him. This is the story or Duran's rise, glorious fight with Sugar Ray, his fall because of pride, and his redemption in the ring.

One of the best films of the year. I loved the metaphors for fighting that Ray Arcel gives Duran. Like the one about the hair. Duran asks him after a fight why Arcel always combed Duran's hair back every time he was in the corner. Arcel tells him that he does that cause when the guy hits you he get pridful and arrogant that he has the upper hand. When you come out of the corner looking fresh it drives them crazy and it gets in their head. To me that is such a good metaphor for life. It's something that I would have never thought about if it were not for this film.

I have to say that I am also highly impressed with Edgar Ramirez's performance and Usher's! Both of them did such fantastic jobs in their roles they could not have picked better people.

Batman V Superman *Ultimate Edition*

Release Date (Original film): March 25, 2016

Starring: Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/ Batman
Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/ Superman
Amy Adams as Lois Lane
Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor
Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/ Wonder Woman

Directed by: Zack Snyder

Written by: Chirs Terrio and David S. Goyer based off the Batman Character written by Bob Kane and Bill Finger and the Superman Character by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

Batman, the superhero of the night, has been fighting crime during the night in Gotham City for the last 20 years. He is starting to give up hope for justice because no one seems to care that there is crime running wild in the streets. Superman, guardian of Metropolis, fights for the good of mankind but the world is starting to question if his intentions they start not to trust him saving them. They both start to loose their reasons of trying to save people in the first place. Now, with Lex Luthor pulling the stings he manipulates both situations into pitting the heroes against each other to take down the other person. All the while Lex Luthor attempts to get the upper hand with his own plans to take over the world.

So the reason that I have taken so long to write about this film is because I was not going to see it. I didn't see it in the theater. I am very glad that I did not see it in the theater because I would have been so confused. The Ultimate Edition is really the only way to see this film and totally understand what is going on. There is so much depth to this story that I am still thinking about it.

My friend Luke, who is a big DC Comic fans and has read the comics, made a very good point that this film is more realistic in the way that people are reacting to Superheroes how they would if they were real. I think that this film was the second best heroes film of the year (after Deadpool) and it's a must see for anyone who likes superhero movies. DC has a great launching pad for there franchise with this film.

The Light Between the Oceans

Release Date: September 2, 2016

Starring: Michael Fassbender as Tom Sherbourne
Alicia Vikander as Isabel Graysmark
Rachel Weisz as Hannah Roennfeldt
Florence Clery as Lucy-Grace

Directed by: Derek Cianfrance

Written by: Derek Cianfrance based off the novel by M.L. Stedman

Tom is a hero from the Great War who has decided he has dealt with enough death and too many people long enough. After carful consideration he chooses to take a six month job working on a lighthouse alone on an island. The city that he goes to before he makes his way to the island has a beautiful girl named Isabel living there. After months of letter being sent back and forth they decide to marry. Shortly after, Tom is given the light house position under a three year contract and Isabel moves on the island with Tom to start their lives together. After a few years, and two miscarriages, Isabel's light of life is starting to fade. She is having a very hard time dealing with the loss of her children, and begins to feel as if she has failed. That is until one day a row boat comes washing up on shore with a dead man, and a very much alive baby girl, on bored. After about a year they go home to visit and Tom learns that there is a mother that lost her baby and husband out at sea. He has to come to terms with the fact that the child is not their. He is torn by doing what is right for the mother and what is right for his wife.

I think that this movie was something very special. It's a very original and not a cookie cutter film as all.

I would have to say that my favorite thing about this film is the title. The reason being is the title is symbolic but once you understand what it means you see the symbolism in every person through the whole film. The story is called "The Light Between the Oceans" because the island that the Lighthouse is on is call Janus Rock. It's named after the god Janus, which also inspired the name of January. The god Janus has two faces, one is always looking forward and the other is always looking back. Janus Rock sits between two oceans. There is always to was of seeing this and the lighthouse is there to help direct you in which way to go. Once you got there you see there are two sides in every aspect of this film and different people, at different times, play this light that helps guide others through the two oceans.

I though that that alone was perfect way to make this film fascinating. Like I said it's a very special, one of a kind film.

Ben-Hur

Toby Kebbelll as Messala Severus

When Messala decides to go off to war and fight to change what his biological family did he comes back an officer and a her. He wants to escort a high ranking government official through his hometown where Judah is Prince, peacefully and he asks Judah for his help in a time of turmoil. When a rebel, that Judah has taken in because he was hurt, tried to kill the official Judah is accused of trying to murder him on accident. Messala ends up being on the one to officially sentence him to life as a slave. This starts Judah Ben-Hur on a journey of love, faith, fear, hate and forgiveness.

I had a little bit of apprehension when I heard that this film was coming out. I love the original one so much and it's very hard not to compare movies. I have to say that this was a good adaptation but it's was not nearly a grand as thee original. The original was good because it focused a lot more of Jesus's story and how faith played in the life of Ben-Hur as he was going through this life of pain and guilt. Yet, this story didn't really bring home the side of it much. It brought it home as the end but all of the miracles that happened at the end made it seem because he forgave someone that they came true but really they missed a lot of the story about his faith in Christ that provided the miracles.

Overall a good film but not nearly a good as the original.

War Dogs

Release Date: August 19, 2016

Starring: Miles Teller as David Packouz
Jonah Hill as Efrain Diveroli
Bradly Cooper as Henry Girard
Ana de Armas as Iz

Directed by: Todd Phillips

Written by: Stephen Chin, Todd Phillips and Jason Smilovic based off the Rolling Stones article called "Arms and the Dudes" by Guy Lawson

Two friends in their early 20's embark in the world of international arms dealers. They start on the bottom and make bank! When a law passed in Italy almost looses them a contract, and the opportunity for future deals they must travel the world in order to get the American Army their guns. When they succeed it leads them to more successful, and dangerous, territory.

This is one of the most fascinating films of this year. The fact the this is based off a true story is what makes is crazier. The fact that his is how the U.S Government did business for out security in the early 2000s and how the events in this movie changed that is probably the most shocking.

Jonah Hill's performance in this film is by far one of the best that I have ever seen him. He was extraordinary! I have mainly known him from his funny roles but he is one of the best dramatic actors that we have in this generation. As for Miles Teller, I have not really seen him in anything yet but based off of what I have seen in this film he is one of the best that we have too. This film makes me look forward to seeing him in "Bleed for This" later on this year. If he was anywhere near as good in that film as he was in this it's going to be a great movie. Brady Cooper's appearance in this film is the icing on top. He did a great job of showing up and being what the "heroes" film needed but he did not overshadow their performance with his own. The three of them were perfected together in this film.

I would have to say this was one of my favorite films to see this year. Everything fro the facts that were given about what happened, to the performances, to the setting. I would go and see this film if you have the chance!

Kubo and the Two Strings

Release Date: August 19, 2016

Starring: Charlize Theron as Monkey
Art Parkinson as Kubo
Matthew McConaughey as Beetle
Ralph Fines as Moon King

Directed by: Travis Knight

Written by: Marc Haimes and Chris Butler

Kubo lives just outside a small village with her mother. He goes down to the village every day and tells stories to try and raise some money for them to survive. He doesn't just tell any stories but magical ones. With the use of his magic guitar he plays the guitar that folds paper into the shapes of people that he is talking about. One night he is out too late, against he mother's wishes, and his evil family has found him. His mother comes to his rescue and tells him that the stories he has been telling, that she has told him, are about his father and they are real and he must now find his father's armor to save his life.

This was by far the best animated movie that has come out this year!!!! Usually Disney always has the market every year when it comes animated films however they have a run for their money when it comes to Kubo.

Every single detail of the film is well thought out and put together. It's the crazy still animation that the animators decided to do that really show their hard work in every scene. I am truly not sure how Disney is going to compare Moana later this year.

Not only was the animation genius but the story is brilliant. It's called Kubo and the Two Stings but they never really tell you what the two strings are. You think that it's only the stings on the guitar but as you see in the start of the film that there are three strings on his guitar. It's truly a beautiful story about the power of family and love.

It's a must see film of this year!

Hell or High Water

Release Date: August 12, 2016

Starring: Chris Pine as Toby Howard
Ben Foster as Tanner Howard
Jeff Bridges as Marcus Hamilton
Gil Birmingham as Alberto Parker

Directed by: David Mackenzie

Written by: Taylor Sheridan

Toby Howard is a poor divorced man who has spent the last year or so taking care of his sick mother. While doing so the payments on her ranch started to back up and is now in foreclosure. With his mother gone, and now out of options, Toby teams up with his brother Tanner, and ex-con, to rob the bank that are foreclosing on them to pay back the debts to the ranch.

What I love about this film was the fact that there is a bunch of questions to the film. There is never one point in the film where you fully believe that they are going to get away with robbing these banks. Part of you really wants them to get away with it. That is until you start to know more about Marcus Hamilton, the sheriff that is being forced to retire. You want him to get his last hoorah before he is going to be forced off the team.

Regardless of who you really want to "win" this battle the writing on this film is brilliant. It's truly an original and in a class of his own. When you watch a film and it sticks with you days after you have seen it that is a sign of a great film. I am still marveling at this film and it's been almost a week since I have seen it. Everything about this script was so meticulously thought out to the point where they knew that these character could totally mess up and get caught. It also set it up to where they could have gotten away with it and it would have been the best "revenge" for them to take all of the money from the bank and give it back to them for them watch it in a trust worth more than they took. It's a great way to show just how corrupt the government and the banks can be. They also show how hard it is for people who are working with their hands on farms in these little towns are suffering because of money.

I will have to say I have never see Chris Pine in a better role than this he does an amazing job. Ben Foster is the real star of the show. I don't think I have seen him in another film but he does such an amazing job here that I can't stop thinking about him in this film.

This film is very satisfying to see. It doesn't end quite like you think it will but you satisfied with how it does. It's not a conventional movie at all and that is what makes it such a great film.

Release Date: August 12, 2016

Starring: Meryl Streep as Florence Foster Jenkins
Hugh Grant as St. Clair Bayfield
Simon Helberg as Come McMoon

Directed by: Stephen Frears

Ms. Jenkins has one great love in life and that is to sing. However, that is one love that does not lover her back. Ms. Jenkins's singing voices is hart to swallow, yet, that does not stop her from singing. When her favorite teacher is free for lessons again and she hires him and starts planning a concert. With the world on a brink of war Ms. Jenkins decides to make a record to make a record to make as many people as she can happy. She even goes as far as to renting out Carnegie Hall to preform for the soldiers. With her pianist Cosme and her husband St. Clair by her side she does one of the bravest things and sing horribly in front of drunk soldier to give them a little bit of happiness.

I think the Florence Foster Jenkins is the one of the most relatable heroes to ever grace the appearance of a movie screen. She is relatable to everyone at least in some point of their lives. Really she is like a child. There are many things that every child thinks they are amazing at. Not just think they are good at it but really cocky about. Ms. Jenkins doesn't hear how bad she sounds. She really thinks that she sounds amazing. Like one of the best singers is what she puts herself up there with. Because she thinks this way she we all can relate to her. I would love to say that I am one of the best movie reviews ever but I know that I am not but it doesn't stop me from doing this.

Meryl Streep is one of the very few actors in Hollywood that is wildly known and no matter what character that she plays you always forget that she is Meryl Streep. That she literally becomes the character that she is playing. That is why she is so memorable in all of her performances because she has that talent that no many actors can posses. This is also one of the best performances that I have ever seen from Hugh Grant. He was funny, witty, sensitive, and authentic in this role. The surprising performance from this movie was Simon Helberg. Everyone knows this man from Big Bang Theory but when you see him in this film he is simply astonishing! He is plays the quiet piano player to Ms Jenkins and proves to be a very good friend to her in the end.

As for the set, costumes, make up, music, and everything else that went into the film it was amazing! There was hardly a complaint when it came to watching the film. It was a thrill to watch and most defiantly a film I will add to my collection.

Anthropoid

Release Date: August 19, 2016

Starring: Jamie Dornan as Jan Kubis
Cillian Murphy as Josef Gabcick
Toby Jones as Uncle Hajsky
Charlotte Le Bon as Marie Kovarnikova
Anna Geislerova as Lenka Fafkova

Directed by: Sean Ellis

Written by: Sean Ellis and Anthony Frewin

The story of an assignation that change the face of a war. Jan and Josef are burdened with the job of the assignation of the Nazi's third highest in command Reinhard Heydrich, or better known as, The Butcher of Prague. This is the story of the planning, the execution, and the extraordinary aftermath of the assignation.

I found this to be one of the most movie movies of the year. Sean Elllis did the most fantastic job of directing and writing of this film. This film is moving  because of the choices that he made for the film.

One of the things that I have learned from watching all of these films this year is to ask the question "Why did this film had to be made". With this film I thought at first the it was tell a story that isn't told much in public school history book is World War II. Which is partly true because this story was either never told when I was in school or it wasn't as in depth to make it a story worth wild to really learn about. I was totally satisfied with that answer until the end of the movie came. See about the last 30-45 minutes of the film there is an epic battle at the Saint Cyril and Methodius Cathedral. Literally the last sequence is loud and in your face and after everything finally happened it goes eerily quiet. Then the names of the seven men who died come up on the screen. Sean Ellis gave a moment of silence to these mean who may not have otherwise received one.

Then he goes on to tell you that they held that church for six hours.... Six hours seven men held the church against 750 Nazis. This is one of those stories that we needed to be taught in school but never were. It's a turning point in World War II. Reason that Hitler wanted Czechoslovakia was because they would get a majority ruling of their coal, steal, iron, and electricity. Which would give the Nazis an upper hand in fueling their army. After the events in this movie took place Winston Churchill decided that the Allies could not just leave Czechoslovakia under Hitler's rule anymore. It make me wonder how if Churchill didn't do that how the War would have changed and what kind of ruling would Hitler would have had.

For sure this movie gets a solid 8 out of 10!

This was by far the best Disney that has come out so far this year. When you are watching this film it takes back to child like wonderment. There is a feeling, that I can't even fully describe, that you only get after seeing a great Disney film and this was the feeling I got watching Pete's Dragon. The closest I can get to saying that is Magic Peace. There haven't been that many kids films that had all of the right elements to create true magic but this one was the first to do it this year.

Magic is truly in the air when it comes to this film. It's a story that you can't spin on and still call it the same movie. To me this film was not a remake, which would mean tearing it apart and recreating something, it's an update. It's an update to a story that was once made. The shined it up a little instead of redoing the whole thing. Disney always does the best job in telling a story. They make mistake like some times over doing the hype a bit and it not living up to what everyone thought it was going to be. However, this film it a simple story about family and love and it's has a little bit of magic thrown in. I felt like I was watching one of their many classics.

I would highly recommend that this be the movie that kids go and see this year.

George Mackay as Bo
Samantha Isler as Kielyr
Annalisa Basso as Vespyr

Written by: Matt Ross

Ben, a devoted father of six kids, lives out in the forest of the North West. When his wife gets really sick, she must leave in order to get better. A few months later she dies and him and the rest of the family have to leave to attempt to get the to the funereal. While out in the real world her must come to terms with the fact that her parenting style are very different from his own.

This film is one of the most unique movies I have seen this year. This movie shows all of the different ways, and views, on how to raise kids. They touch on almost every subject on what we believe and why. It's the story of a father who wants the best for his kids. He wants them to think on everything. Not just call in interesting and say that they like something. He wants them to expand their minds, to think no only as to what they thought of the book they are reading but why the author wrote it. What it represents.

This movie really makes you questions many different things. One of which is the education system that we have. These kids are smart, they think about the world and the laws that are passed. This is just a five year old talking about it. When a young man in middle school can't even tell you what the Bill of Rights is it makes you question how we are educating out future. It makes you think of how are we making our kids strong as well. There are a lot of kids out there who think they are touch but when it comes down to hard work they don't know what to do. They are very entitled because everything is handed to them. This is very different from the world that Ben is trying to show. He is trying to make them world hard for what they want. To work for everything, even their food.

Yet, even in this paradise that Ben has created there are problems. They have no friends other than their siblings. They don't know really anything outside the world unless it comes out of a book. As smart as they are they are not street smart. They don't know how manipulative the people of the world can be. Some may think that Ben's way of raising kids is great but when you think about it this is helicopter parenting to the extreme. Yet, they are very independent in other ways. Like when it comes to their education. They choose what they want to learn about and they seems to know who they are and what they like.

Overall, this movie is a need to watch as least once. If not because you are interested in the film then to understand how different styles of parenting are. That raising kids is more than giving them what they wants it about giving them what they need to make something of themselves.

After I went to see this movie I found out that it was a big TV show in Europe. So it's not the greatest film. It's only as good as you would think that it would be. Really that is all I can say about the film.

Cafe Society

Release Date: July 15, 2016

Starring: Steve Carell as Phil Stern
Jesse Eisenberg as Bobby
Kristen Stewart as Vonnie

Directed by: Woody Allen

Written by: Woody Allen

Bobby, a young man from New York, moved west to Hollywood to work with his uncle. Phil Stern Bobby's uncle and star agent, hires him to run errands for him, While there he falls in love with his uncle's secretary, Vonnie. When he decides to move back home he wants to take her with him. She decides not to go because she is in a relationship. When he goes home he falls in love and runs a new club his brother owns.

This is a movie that is very eye catching but it was overall a very weak movie. The costumes, the make up, and the sets were beautiful. They were well thought out and well placed but that is about where the movie's greatness ends.

The plot was very weak and very bland. It's appeal to draw you in was the beauty and the music but when you go there to see the film it relied heavily on a relationship to happened that wasn't very interesting to begin with. When you watch Jesse Eisenberg, a man who have been brilliant in other film, and try to make a "lover story for the ages" romance with Kristen Stewart, is has done nothing brilliant in her career, it's not going to end well. Kristen Stewart is not a good actress everything she says it's always under enthusiastic and it's like her acting is just a sarcastic joke to her. She has no live in her when she acts. It's very stressful to watch her on the screen because she just doesn't seem like she want to be there.

Because of this I think that all of the actors suffered. Jesse Eisenbug, who I have not seen a performance from him that I didn't like, was lacking in his performance. The same thing with Steve Carell as well. He was not nearly as good as I thought he was going to be. Instead of them inspiring Kristen Stewart into being a better actor they all lowered they skill set to match hers.

In all in all they really could have picked a much better person to play Vonnie and the film would have been much better. However, the only thing that can come from this is how the set designers can make a film more appealing that what it really ends up being.

Now he must find a way to reconnect with his family before his body expires and is stuck that way forever.

Although it was not the worst movies I have seen this year it is the most uneventful. This is one of those plots that was great the first time it was done but now it's been used so many times that it's boring. There is not many other "original" way that you can spin that to make it fresh and appealing.

When you go to the movies you really want to be taken into the world that you are about to see. You want to experience it the best you possibly can. This film you are not in that world. You are just begging for it to be over. It was good for a kids film but it was nothing really worth wild for anything more than to kill two hours.

Directed by: David Ayer

Written by David Ayer based off the comic by John Ostrander

With the world left without Superman there are a log of questions. One of them being whi is going to protect Jump City now that he is gone? Amanda Waller has the answer. She is looking ti create a task force of the worst Super Villains and use them to secretly save the city. When the biggest villain they have seen is the one she created she is looking to the rest of the squad to save her and the city from doom

This movie is one of the biggest movies to come out this summer and for a good reason. Yes, it's one of the comics made into a movie, and yes, it was well advertised and the whole world is now wiped into seeing any super hero film. This movie is great because it really looks at what it means to be good, what it means to be evil, and what power comes with the to. What are the reasons for your actions on the "side" that you choose. Do you really choose a side or does the power overwhelm you?

Power is a strange and mysterious thing, Viola Davis's character really empowers how powerful that need for power is. At the beginning you side with Viola. You understand that if there was a bad superman that we would be screwed. That we don't have any way of  protecting ourselves from an invasion if someone with power was out to destroy us. Her idea to create a team of bad guys to help to keep the city safe in secret. She likes being in charge and she likes having someone to boss around. She is large and in charge. There isn't anything that she can't get done, and won't do to get it done. It's all for her benefit of being seen. For her to be the one who gets noticed and gets the glory of saving the day. Yet, through all of trouble that she goes through to get the team together she creates one of the worst enemies that the city has ever seen. Then she starts to realize that what she was trying to work for, the glory, the prestige, the power was all for something that backfired in a few hours.

The power isn't only with Viola Davis, it lies with almost ever single character in the film. The Joker is the next one who has the big power problem. His power search is one that is more of a controlling nature. He isn't looking for the glory or honor. He is looking to be the only one in charge. He power struggle has taken in one the "evil side" because it was a lot easier to scare everyone into being controlled instead of working to get everyone to look up to you. You have even a different force for power when it comes to Deadshot. He is looking to be the most powerful gun for hire in all of the city so he can give his daughter a better life. His ex-wife is not raising her really at all and he wants to do right by her but he doesn't know another way to do it.

Then you have the big question as to weather or not you are born into being "evil" or "good". This is actually a much loaded question because all of the things that we experience in the film really question the motives behind all of the actions that the character does. We find through just watching the film that all of the character are not all good and they are not all evil. Everyone has a little bit of heart to them and a little bit of evil. Viola's need to be the best makes her moves questionable. Like holding a woman hostage so that she can use the power inside of her. Manipulating a soldiers heart so that he falls in love with the woman so neither one of them can leave her side for her own purpose. Where her intentions seem to be good her motives are bad.

All of the bad guys go through this question of what is good and what is bad through the whole movie. they start out hating the world because of "what it did to them". They think that no one really gave them a chance at proving themselves, or they already but them in a box because of who they are associated with or what they believe. Deadshot is constantly having to prove to the thick headed Flag that he can be more than he is. Flag is under this impression of Deadshot that he is not as good as they say he is. Yes, he can hit targets that stand still but he isn't capable of doing more. When Flag insults Deadshot's worthiness, by saying that Deadshot can't fight he is a cut and run kind of man, Deadshot saves the soldier's life by proving that he is just as good at fighting as he is at hiding in the shadows and shooting. Flag over the course of the movie sees that he didn't give Deadshot, or any of the others, any credit to what they can do and what they fight for given the right circumstances.

The Joker even has a little good in him.... well what I mean by that is he has a heart. I know that this Joker in the movie is not like the one in the comics. I know that his and Harley's relationship is much more complicated in the comics that it is in this movie. So, what I am saying about the Joker here is strictly based off of what I saw in the movie.  The Joker has heart for one person in the world, other than himself. That is Harley Quinn. She if literally the only being that can lead to his undoing here. When he asks her if she would Live for him he wants to know that he can control her. What she says yes she jumps into this giant vat and he walks away. It's the only time in the whole movie that you see him question a move that he makes. He thinks for a moment about leaving her there to die (because she can't swim) and changes his mind and goes in after her. He does this know that he is saves her the world is soon going to know that this is the only person he cares enough about to make him change his course of action. That he would do whatever it takes in order to keep her safe. That is why he keeps her close through that whole movie because when she is not near him he knows that she is his one weakness and he doesn't want anyone to have control over.

As much as the movie is entertaining it does raise give you a lot to think about. Movies, and the wold for the most part, want to tell you that there is a strict line between good and evil. Once you cross that line either way there is no going back. However, that I not what the movie shows at all. This movie shows that there is actually a lot of gray area of what is good and evil. What is worth gaining power on, and what you want power over. It's not a black and white as we wish it could be. It also shows that what is "right" and what is "wrong" mean different things for everyone based of what they believe or have experienced. It shows that given that right circumstances we as an audience cheered for the bad guys. Something that many of use "would never do in real life" we cheer for them. We cheered when The Joker didn't die, we cheered when he found his love and "saved" her. We were happen when the serial killer Deadshot got to be with his daughter again. We were happy when Viola Davis, the "good guys" mind you, got her ass handed to her. This movie goes far beyond what many superhero movies have done and given a reason as to why the bad guys are the way they are.

There is not line between good and evil, it's just  your beliefs are.

Nerve

Release Date: July 27, 2016

Starring: Emma Roberts as Vee
Dave Franco as Ian

High school senior Vee has always played it safe. Her best friend, Sydney, has always been on the wild side. When a new online game called Nerve hits their city Sydney is all about for it. Competing to the the most views while completing dares she calls Vee out for being afraid of everything. Trying to prove her wrong, Vee signs up to play and gets sucked up into a world of danger while trying to survive.

Directed by: Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman

Written by: Jessica Sharzer based off the novel by Jeanne Ryan

This was by far the best movie of the summer. I felt like every time I saw the trailer for the film there was a lot of hype for it. Most of the time films don't live up to the hype that they are given. This was the exception to that rule. Every single bit of hype that was given to this film was well deserved.

The whole point of this film in control. It really shows how our society today is being controlled. Not just everyone one but the different age groups. When we see Vee and Sydney that are on the younger side they are controlled by what people think about them. Whether is be like Sydney and she was to be liked by everyone and the center of attention, or like Vee who doesn't want to be judged by her "friends". They both want to show what they have in front of everyone. They are also controlled by the unknown force that is the internet. Not only do they want to approval for everyone around them they also want it from anyone who can see it happening. The one thing that you see that not many older people are playing the game. They are controlled by money as a means to survive. The don't play the game because they know that the stuff that they are doing is going to get someone hurt. They know better than to rick their neck for something that could get them a lot of money or something that can get them killed. So they don't really know about the game and the kids are playing it in order to earn money because they think that by doing this is will help their parents out.

Regardless of who is controlling who,the film is very original. The script is very imaginative. It seems very realistic in what some of the dares are for people to do and what kinds of things that would happen in order to get them knocked out of the game. A lot of movies that have people being disqualified for stuff is for something that they aren't really afraid of. So, when they do get knocked out for something it doesn't seem genuine. This one shows that when they are knocked out of the game they are truly afraid of what they are about to do. They still go out swinging. They try to conquer their fear but sometimes it can't be done. It's a great reminder that not everyone in the film is totally fearless.

I have to say that I was impressed by that acting as well. I have loved everyone that I have seen Dave Franco do so I was thrilled to learn that he was going to being to be in this film. I am not a huge fan of Emma Roberts. I was a little worried about paring the two of them in this movie but they actually worked really well together. Their chemistry worked a lot better together that I would have ever given them credit for. They were very believable as love interests and they really seemed to enjoy making the film. I would see another action film with both of them in it if it happened again.

The only thing about this film that was not my favorite thing was the fact that they were all in high school. The reason being for that is because most of the fighting was done in that stupid high school drama that most people leave behind when they left high school. However, I understood that the novel was set for them being in high school so I could look past it. Other than that the is a very solid and fun movie that needs to be experience on the big screen.

The Infiltrator

Release Date: July 15, 2016

Starring: Bryan Cranston as Robert Mazur
John Leguizamo as Emir Abreu

Robert Mazur, U.S. Custom's Undercover Agent, is underway on the biggest bust of his life. he is ring to find and take down Pablo Escobar with his Money Laundering scheme.

Bryan Cranston is by far one of the most amazing actors that is currently on the screen and he does not disappoint here. When he is playing this role it's amazing. You really believe that he is Robert Mazur and you are never taken out of that mindset through the whole movie. He has a way of making you feel the role along with him the most actors today just don't possess.

The film as a whole was full force all of the time. Truly never a dull moment. It has all of the action that anyone could want. He's a great look of what some agents do for a living and how they are putting their lives in danger every time they go out into the field. The most interesting part is how they work undercover. How they cope with having a secret life. A secret life no matter how you look at it. You are either hiding you job from you family or your family from your job. You get a look into the mindset of a man who always has to keep a secret. That is brilliant writing in order to convey that to an audience.

Everything in the film felt very authentic as well. Most movies make the film to cheesy when they are doing a piece set in the 70's they did a good job of subtlety here. They had everything that they needed in order to show that they were in the 70's but they didn't have to go over the top doing it. They kept it very authentic and tasteful.

I think that anyone who loves a good action movie this is the movie that you need to see right here. It's not over the top but it's got a lot going on to keep you entertained without always having to be in a car chase.

Leslie Jones as Patty Tolan

I am not sure why everyone is going crazy about the remake of this film. Oh, I know... because the classics should never be touched.

I have never seen the original movie so I don't have much to compare it to. However, it was hilarious! From my understanding of the other movie they seemed to have added a few things that are different form the original. The funniest thing of the movie would have to be Chris Hemsworth as Kevin. Nothing is funnier than him and the end credits. The film had its moments but not the greatest movie in the world.

Sunset Song

Release Date: May 13, 2016

Starring: Agyness Deyn as Chris Guthrie
Kevin Guthrie as Ewan Tavendale

The story of a girl growing up in Scotland on the brink of war. Not a story or a queen, or a wise old woman, but one of a farm girl trying to find her own path in life. While she endures love, loss, and heartbreak she we see how the war effects her life even though her family, and her people, are not the ones that the war is concerned about.

This a simple story that comes to live beautifully. It's a very full circle and foreshadowing movie. Full circle because you don't really know why the title of the movie is Sunset Song until the end of the movie, and when you hear about why we are here to experience the film it gives you such joy and pride. Foreshadowing because the one sentence that is said through the movie is "lovely thing don't always endure and they're lovelier for that". It was a profound sentence even before I saw the movie and it was even more so after the movie was over.

A simple more with a simple moral, no matter what you love when it's gone you will still think of it fondly.

They put an add on Craigslist and they get every type of girl under the sun. They finally find the right girls to take with them. When they get to Hawaii they find that the nice girls they chose aren't so nice after all.

I thought I was going to hate this movie before I even went into the theater. The trailers made it seem like is was really trashy. Just like you can't just a book by its cover you can't just a movie by its trailer.

This movie actually ended up being really really funny. Yes, there were some raunchy parts but no where near as bad as the trailer made it out to be. The humor is what really held the movie together, the plot alone would not have been enough. To have a story about how you found someone on craiglist to be your date and it all worked out, without the boys needs to be the center of attention, or the drugs, or the outrageous fun, that plot would have been a really really bad romance movie. With all of the craziness this film just ended up being a feel good funny movie.
